Strange behavior in the 1800’s.

Strange behavior in the 1800’s.

In London 1854. George Campbell and John Challis lured men into a fancy ball dressed to the nines as women. They were arrested on the intent to commit an unnatural offence. One of the men was claimed to be a preacher and on mission of research, the other claimed poor health. The charges were dropped.

During the age of petticoats and layers of crinolines, this was not the only case of such drag balls. High society men and even royalty were known to dress up as woman and woman dressed as men for a night of fun and mischief.

Women-fashion-watches and the Dandy Horse

My grandmother worn a locket with a watch around her neck and I always admired it. In the 1800’s women often pinned a watch to their bosom or dangled it on a chain.

Did you know the wristwatch became popular with the bicycling fad (or Dandy Horse- as the bicycling was known early on as). I suppose it was difficult to ride a bicycle with a watch dangling around your neck.

You can purchase our reproduction fashion locket like this.  Take look at all our custom jewelry on our link: Southern Shells and Jewels.

Thought for today.

Thought for today.

Whatever is true, good, honest, natural, pure, and lovely is admirable—Think of these things today and rest your mind in thanksgiving.

The History of Time by the Ocean

IMG_3083I am older than time. In the beginning I was only mist in the darkness. The Lord’s face hovered over me and condensed my vapors into water and formed the heavens.

He then separated me into five great bodies of water and I became the mother of all seas, lakes and streams.   The land appeared.

Then the Almighty decorated the heavens with stars. He hung the moon and the sun and they circled the earth turning the nights into days. There was balance and the seasons began.

God created living things. Plants covered the face of the land and the bottom of my salty floors. Great numbers of birds flew in the heavens and fishes and wonderful creatures filled my waters.

God created animals of all shapes and forms to roam the earth. I witnessed God form man in his own image. Then He created woman from the rib of the man.   The man and woman were appointed to govern over all creatures great and small.   With the exception of one fruit-bearing tree, they were to nourish their bodies abundantly on the foods that God had created.

As the keepers of paradise, man and woman owed God only their obedience, love and praise. When God’s work was done, He declared it good and He rested.

For many years from my sandy shores I admired the handiwork of the Lord. I beheld the birth of all creatures and the beauty of the flowers. The first Man and Woman swam in my waters and sunned on my shores. They were happy.  Oh, but the day of temptation came. They ate of the forbidden fruit and the Lord cast them out of the garden. They wandered far from my shore and I no longer could be watchful of them.

The woman bore children and her children bore descendants. They littered my shores and tried to claim me.   I fought back with raging storms and winds. No man owns me. I have, and always will belong to the Creator.

They built ships to sail over my waters and traveled from shore to shore. There were good men, but most forgot about the Creator and began to worship false gods.

God was angry. He told Noah to build an ark and take aboard his family and two of every animal on earth. He commanded me to create great storms and the heavens to open up. Heavy rains fell from the sky for forty days and cleansed the earth.

When the rain ceased a rainbow appeared in the heavens. It was a new day and new life began.  Mankind’s numbers grew again, and they covered the earth. Some were wise men and others were fools. Some were faithful to God and others unfaithful even to themselves.

There were bloody wars upon my shores and people were enslaved by other nations. There was sickness and sorrows and even the most godly of men sinned.

God wrote his laws in stone and Moses delivered them from Mount Sinai to the people. Still there were many people that went astray.   They lusted after and killed one another. There were liars and thieves among the people of God.

God said that the people needed an example and a teacher. God searched my shores and found Mary. The archangel Gabriel told her she was to bear the Son of God. He would be called Jesus.

The child was born and I watched him grow in the likeness of His Father. He taught fishermen to be fishers of men and he walked on my waters. He healed the sick and forgave the wicked. He waved his hand and commanded me to be calm and I was still. He was the Messiah.

When the tide changed, many of his followers deserted him and Pontius Pilate sentenced Jesus to be crucified.   It was a stormy day and all the creatures in my waters wept. The earthly beasts wailed and the heavens were dark, but the deed was done according to God’s plan.

darkFor three days my waters grieved, but on the third day our beloved Son arose from the dead! He was alive and the oceans mourned no more. Like my tides wash the shores, their Savior had washed away their sins with His precious blood. Jesus promised to all that followed him everlasting life in the house of His Father.

Heaven and Earth rejoiced and my waters roared in victory. Oh, if only that had been the end of man’s sinful ways.

Many years have passed since that glorious day.   I have unwillingly hosted pirates and great ships of war. The heavens are filled with smog and flying machines, and the earth is cluttered with man-made stones and bricks. I have seen green lands polluted and my waters bleed with chemical waste.

Many people have forgotten God’s words and live for their own satisfaction. However I have not lost faith. Blessed are those that protect me and follow our Lord. Together we shall see the day when the Son walks upon our shores again.

American Woman

~Nancy B. Brewer

The same rain that falls on my part of the world falls on other lands. The same sunshine that shines through my window lights the home of others across the globe.

I am an American Woman. I am free to worship as I choose, go to school, chose my profession, own property, and businesses. I make the decision who I marry, and if and when, I decide to have children.

In this year of 2017 there are laws that say I must receive equal pay for equal work. I am free to dress as I please, bear arms, speak my mind, vote, hold political office and serve in the military.

I may drive a car, a truck, motorcycle, boat or even a plane. I can live alone, or travel anywhere I desire without an escort.

That sounds like freedom to me.

Yes, there have been times when I have been treated unfairly because I am a woman. However, there have been many more times that I have been given special considerations because I am a woman.

Sadly there are women and children in America who are hungry and lost. There are those that are treated unfairly, sexually assaulted, beaten and abused.

Do the people of America care? —Yes.  Is it against the law in America? —Yes.

On this same planet, where the sun shines and the rain flows there are women not so fortune as their American sisters. They and their children are less than second-class citizens. In those lands the same sun sets, but the sleepers have no dreams.

A young girl does not choose a husband or the number of children she wishes to bear. She is considered property and those things are chosen for her.

Not only is it forbidden for her to expose her body, she must bury her soul and keep her thoughts and ideas to herself.

Women and girls are beaten, stoned, and even beheaded for acts as simple as going shopping alone.   They are sold into slavery, as child brides, and many must submit to painful genital mutilations.

Does anyone care?—No.   It is the law of their land!

Now I say to the thousands of women in America who are marching across our great nation in protest of our goverment. Which country do you wish to live in?

If you must march, throw down your selfish batons and parade for our sisters that live in endless suffering and bondage, not only here in our country, but across the horizons.

Strive to make this world a better place for all. Pave the roads for future generations to enjoy the humble hand of kindness.

I pray that our generation not be remembered as the destroyers of unity and patriotism.

Look at the examples our children view: Hollywood royalty and music superstars shouting vulgarity and profanity with threats against our president and our country. Are they above the law? Shall we call them Americans?

Is it too much to ask that our public streets be filled with a spirit of peace and not protest?

I know that I am not alone when I say: I will not hand over my right to decency to the likes of some Madonna or Ashley Judd
